Cable car is one mode of
transportation that transport passengers to uplands and mostly for recreation
purposes. Langkawi island in Malaysia has one.
The cable car here is not for the faint-hearted. Not only it has the
longest cable, a total length of 2.2 km (1.4 mi), it holds a world record of
the steepest incline at 42 degrees!
I experienced it myself on my
travel to Langkawi.
The SkyCab is part of the
attractions at the Oriental Village. The Oriental Village is a theme village
built as a tourist destination. And for you to reach the SkyBridge you have to
ride the SkyCab. There are 3 stations, aside from at the base are the
intermediate and the topmost stations that offers viewing platforms.
The ticket price for the cable car ride includes
an admission to the Skydome. The sky dome is a simulated video showing of a
roller coaster on Mars. This attraction transport you for a 5-minute-long
roller coaster ride at the comfort of your seat.

Coming out leads you to the platform for the car
ride. The car can accommodate a maximum of 6 passengers. The start of the
journey is a gentle ascent until it began to ascend up and reach to which the
cable began to straighten up, closes to the mountainside offering fantastic
up-close views of the rainforest until the cable car reaches the top, the
intermediate station and passengers can step off onto a large platform to enjoy
the stunning 360 degrees’ view of Machincang mountain.

Moving to the top station, it is a shorter cable
ride over to a nearby peak. A short walk up the stairs from the Top Station to
the two viewing platforms at the top of mountain. You will be amazed at
the unfolding dramatic views from the platforms, the unique and exciting
features of Machincang, dominating rock tower peaks, and the spectacular
panoramic views of the Langkawi islands and southern Thailand.
